Be Here Now

Be Here Now by Alison Ferrier
It seems quite apt for rain on a new year's day
Wash all of the sins of the past away
Feels so right, such a cleansing sight
Water has the power to rage or flow
Turns from gentle shower to ice and snow
Runs so fast, races past
Look to the sky for there-in lies
The past, the future won't hear your cries
Slow it down and be here now
Life and death surround us whoever we are
Our destination may not be so far
Slow it down and be here now
No one feels joy all the time
Why is surviving such a crime?
There's no-one out there you can blame
We take our chances in the devil's game
So slow it down and be here now

Damned If I Do

Damned if I do by Alison Ferrier
I'm damned if I do
I'm surely damned if I don't
What's there to come back to?
Maybe I just won't
I've never had my privacy
No place to call my own
The little voice inside of me
Knows I'm better off alone
A fragile balance hangs over me
Bad days I could name a few
But soon my foolish heart and aching feet
Drag me back to you
I'm damned if I do
I'm surely damned if I don't
What's there to come back to?
Maybe I just won't
There isn't any prize to gain
No room for winners here
Locked out in the pouring rain
I want to disappear
You said the world was there for us
That love would see us through
but soon your dark side raised it's head to me
Now it's the end for me and you
I'm damned if I do
I'm surely damned if I don't
What's there to come back to?
Maybe I just won't

Made For Each Other

Made For Each Other by Alison Ferrier
I would never leave you
Even if you asked me to
No I would not forsake you
That's not what you'd want me to do
I've memorised every word you've said
I keep them all inside my head
And when you take me for your lover
You'll see that we were made for each other
Made for each other
Made for each other
Receipts for books and magazines
A few loose coins for parking machines
And the scent of you I find
Still lingers in the coat you left behind
Time goes by and soon you'll see
You don't need anyone but me
I'll take it as a heavenly sign
They've moved you to the office next to mine
Made for eachother
Made for eachother

Photo Of You

Photo Of You by Alison Ferrier
When I came round that evening, you wouldn't let me in
So I walked all the way back home
The clouds turned grey and yellow as the sun went down
I knew you shouldn't be alone
I couldn't cope with the loneliness,
My nightmare was coming true
I only had a photograph of you
You'd hoped for more than anything, you had nothing to lose
You said it was more than you could bear
You waited for a sunny day at the end of July
But the truth is, life can be so unfair
I couldn't cope with the loneliness,
My nightmare was coming true
I only had a photograph of you
Boarded-up windows over-look your over-grown yard,
There's nothing but litter blowing around
Why did you keep me out? I could've helped you through the pain
I would've held your hand when the sun went down.
I couldn't cope with the loneliness,
My nightmare was coming true
I only had a photograph of you

Bitter Pill

Bitter Pill by Alison Ferrier & Jeff Lang
Freeze frame, I'm not the only one
See all their faces, knowing what you've done.
I won't ask, cos I don't wanna know
If you turn and run, you'll be spoiling the show
Well I've had my fill, it's such a bitter pill
But I ain't lying now, feel it turn around
You've gotta swallow it down
For shame I had to find you here
Of all the places, the one we held so dear?
How far did you think this could go?
You hide your ring as if they'd never know
Do you feel the chill? It's a bitter pill
that you're taking now, it's all over town
You gotta swallow it down
No way, you can't shut me down
You've burned your bridges, I'm no longer bound
Fair weather friends in your high-flying game
Yeah they're staring still, it's a bitter pill
So turn and take a bow, it's all over now
You've gotta swallow it down.

Old Adelaide

The Old Adelaide by Alison Ferrier
The old man smiles knowingly
The giggly girls sparkle with youth
They're making eyes at the haircut boys
Huddled in the corner booth
The landlord is quietly arguing
With the drunk over whiskey and water
And the band starting up in the corner
Makes you think of your son and daughter
Oh you've got it made
Down at The Old Adelaide
There's an empty bottle on the table
Her cheeks are flushed from the wine
Now your kids have their own and are far away
There are worse things to do with your time
Now the opening door brings in friends from the cold
You return with more drinks from the bar
And you think to yourself your wife's the most beautiful
Woman in the room by far
Oh you've got it made
Down at The Old Adelaide
Though it's pouring down outside and you could do with warmer weather
And the guy down at the hardware store could have helped you a little better
You're aching in your joints and you don't feel quite like you used to
You're golden years are hard working years taking orders from a boy half the age of you
But oh you've got it made
Down at The Old Adelaide

On This Day

|

On This Day by Alison Ferrier & Jeff Lang
On this day I'll wear a ring
On my left hand for the first time, the first time
Come what may I'll be there darling
Please understand it's for all time, for all time
My heart is beating a little faster
But I know when you're with me it'll be all right
I see you smile and hear your laughter
And you tell me everything's ok
You're with me all the way
On this day I'll wear a ring
On my left hand for the first time, the first time
Come what may I'll be there darling
Please understand it's for all time, for all time
If I get blinded by suspicion
I recall the way it felt on that first night
I saw in your eyes recognition
The haze was gone and we both knew
My love it's you
On this day I'll wear a ring
On my left hand for the first time, the first time
Come what may I'll be there darling
Please understand it's for all time, for all time
You make me wanna be the best that I can be
Although we won't always agree
You share my pain when things don't go to plan
I can't promise to be perfect
But I'll do the best I can
On this day I'll wear a ring
On my left hand for the first time, the first time
Come what may I'll be there darling
Please understand it's for all time, for all time

Rise Above

Rise Above by Alison Ferrier
I'm living in a haze, never sure of what I'm doing
I wish I could clear this fog from my mind
The days seem filled with sentences unfinished
Broken thoughts of a life I left behind
It's afternoon and I haven't showered
It feels impossible to achieve much at all
There's a ringing in my ears and I'm having trouble breathing
I'm standing on the edge, I'm just about to fall
And darkness falls on me tonight I crumple like a doll
I'll fight my way back up from under, I'll rise above it all
I can't wait for the day to be over
I'm sick of all the noise and exhaustion's setting in
Over-whelmed by guilt, I feel like I've failed you
I'm sorry, I'll try harder when a new day begins
And darkness falls on me tonight I crumple like a doll
The walls may close around me but I'll rise above it all

Black Diamond by Alison Ferrier
Black diamond black diamond you used to shine so bright for me
You may have lost your sparkle but don't quit so easily
Black diamond black diamond you smile so bitterly
Your heart is cold as marble but I just can't let you be
Well my friends all say I'm crazy
but they don't know what's best for me
They think they know the score they didn't know you before
You were a girl's best company
Black diamond black diamond why're you being so unkind?
Hurry to me baby or I just might change my mind
Black diamond black diamond don't you hear my melody?
Well some day soon you're gonna be the death of me

Not So Clever

Not So Clever Now
There's a cold wind blowing, the dogs are howling
Do you know where you're going, when your feet don't touch the ground?
The dark surrounds you, there's no moon tonight to guide you
This is not a safe place for you, the birds don't sing around here
Oh you thought you had it all
Now you have lost your way and you're afraid
You're not so clever now
The rain starts falling, your head is spinning
A night spent drinking makes you shiver now
You drowned your sorrows deeply
For your wife and your family
Their love betrayed so cheaply and now you're all alone
Oh you thought you had it all
Now you have lost your way and you're afraid
You're not so clever now
Oh the pain of loss will burn and what you shared can never return
But you can find your way back home again
Oh you thought you had it all
Now you have lost your way and you're afraid
You're not so clever now
